Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site, Hyde Park, NY

The Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site, in Hyde Park, NY, is a sight to behold.  This mansion was built in 1896-1899 by Fredrick William Vanderbilt, a railroad baron, as a "farmhouse" for their spring and fall getaways to the country.  The house took 26 months to complete with a crew of men working around the clock.  The house cost about $400,000 dollars and the furnishings cost 1.5 million.  Most of the furnishings were imported from France as was the style at the time.  The unique thing about this home is that most of the original furnishings are still intact because it was sold by a member of the Vanderbilt family to the National Park Service for the sum of $1.

Walkway Over the Hudson, New York

In Poughkeepsie, New York, there is a relatively new walkway that is a re-purposed railway bridge that crosses the Hudson river.  It is a 3 mile walk round trip.  It's very high above the water and has wonderful views of the Hudson river and the surrounding countryside.

This is the walkway, very easy to walk on, plenty of room.

New Haven, CT

Visited New Haven, CT and had lunch at Modern Apizza.  We had a pizza called the Italian Bomb; it had pepperoni, italian sausage, bacon, mushrooms, onions, green peppers and garlic.  It was delicious.  We also visited the New Haven lighthouse and saw a lovely carousel.

Cape Cod, Mass.

Drove down Hwy 6 across Cape Cod, Mass.  Stopped by the Friendly Fisherman for some clam chowder, fried clams and shrimp.  Yummy!  Also, went out by the beach, saw a historical coast guard station and a lighthouse.

Plymouth Rock, Plymouth, MA

Stopped by the Plymouth Rock display in Plymouth, MA.  This rock is where tradition states that the Pilgrim's landed in the new land in 1620.
