Valley Forge, Pennsylvania was the place of the winter encampment for the Continental Army in the winter of 1777-1778. General George Washington and his troops set up their winter camp here and it was a tough winter. Many soldiers died due to lack of food and illness. There is a reconstructed fort and several reconstructed winter huts. The house where General Washington had his headquarters is still standing. According to the National Park Guide, 70 percent of the home is still original.
