Blue Ridge Parkway, NC

Went for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC.  This nearly 500 mile long road through the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia was begun in the 1930s and was completed in 1966 with one exception.  A 7.7 mile stretch around Grandfather mountain did not open until 1987.  There are 25 tunnels in NC and one in VA.  The purpose of the road was to connect Smokey Mountain National Park with Shenandoah National Park.

Lots of tunnels!
