Cumberland Gap National Historic Park, TN, KY, VA

Cumberland Gap was one of three places where it was possible for people to cross the Appalachian Mountains in order to travel west and settle.  We were able to hike up to the "saddle" of the gap, the place where thousands of travelers, soldiers, trappers, and Native American's crossed the mountains range.  It was pretty cool to stand in the gap and think about all the history that crossed that same place.

To get to the Cumberland Gap NHP from Tennessee, you have to drive through a mile long tunnel, when you come out the other end, you are in Kentucky.

Cumberland Gap Tunnel, opened in 1996.

Daniel Boone Trail

The trail the to Pinnacle overlook starts in Kentucky and you end up in Virginia.
