A friend suggested that we visit the Medicine Wheel near Lovell, Wyoming. It is a sacred site for the Plains Indians. The wheel was created using stones, there are 28 spokes and the wheel is 80 feet in diameter. It is located at 9642 feet on top of the Bighorn Mountain Range. We drove up the mountain in very foggy weather. When we got to the parking area, it was 45 degrees and very windy and foggy. We had to walk 1 and 1/2 miles up and down several steep hills to reach the site. It was truly breath-taking. And not just because of the altitude. The wheel was used for ceremonial purposes and has solar and star alignments. This area can only be reached for about 2 to 3 months in the summer. The wheel is positioned to align with the summer solstice. It was a special experience to see the Medicine Wheel.
